Spark was born Jessica Sparkle Morgan in Liverpool during January 1992. 'Sparkle' is her genuine middle name and she claims this was given to her by her dad as when she was born (in a birthing pool) she sparkled in the water. Evidently, her current stage name is a shortened version of this.
When she was a child, Spark's family moved to Walthamstow, London where she was brought up and began to enjoy a wide range of music "from the Spice Girls to Shaggy". She learned to play the guitar aged twelve and became inspired to write her own music. She has cited "purely people, situations, relationships, losses and gains" as her main lyrical influences. She also plays synths.
Spark attented London's BRIT school and at age 14 she became the youngest ever winner of the Inter College Vocal Speech competition. She continued her winning streak the following year by coming first in an Xfm busking contest. Although still attending school, Spark made five of her self-penned songs into MySpace demos with the help of Peter Vettese - a former producer for Annie Lennox.
In Spring 2010 Spark supported Marina & The Diamonds on her UK tour and later joined Diana Vickers on the road in November of the same year. Spark's first single, 'Shut Out The Moon', was released on 12th July 2010 as an iTunes download & on vinyl. There is no confirmation of any future CD releases but fingers crossed for an album.
We hear Spark's lucky number is 1 - let's hope she'll hit that position in the charts in the not too distant future!
